The Town of Wasaga Beach is pleased to announce that the Ainley Group has donated $10,000 to support the town’s new twin-pad arena and library.
“This is tremendous news,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “We couldn’t be more pleased and more proud of this donation. It’s a sign that we’re heading in the right direction and that’s because of the incredible support of the many businesses, organizations and individuals in our community that are pitching in.”
Many members of the Ainley Group have been living in or around Wasaga Beach since the business opened in 1961, and many of their staff continue to use and enjoy the current library and arena.
Company chairman, Simon Ainley, is also a resident of Wasaga Beach who has been involved in minor hockey, both to watch his son play, and in a league leadership capacity.
“We are certain that the new first-class facility will continue to be a leading center of activity for the residents of this growing shoreline community,” said Ainley. “The new arena will address the recreational needs of the town’s expanding population, while serving as an attraction and draw for a generation of new hockey players and figure skaters.”
The current arena has served as a significant community hub, providing recreational resources for the Town’s youth and providing a meeting place bringing together kids and parents alike.
On occasion, the Ainley Group has also hosted its annual Christmas Party on the upper floor of the Wasaga Stars Arena.
Since its inception, the Ainley Group had placed a special focus on the engineering and planning needs of small to mid-sized communities It strives to make a lasting contribution to the growth and well-being of municipalities like Wasaga Beach.
The company anticipates that many employees and their families will access the new arena and library:
“We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this significant project,” Ainley adds. ”We consider it an investment in the well-being of the Town’s quickly increasing population, including those members of our local staff residing in Wasaga Beach.”

Quick facts
- The Wasaga Stars Arena, built nearly 50 years ago, is at the end of its lifespan.
- The Wasaga Beach Library, which opened in 1994, is too small to meet the needs of our growing community. A review, including a community consultation process, determined 544 River Road West as the best site for a new 117,669-square-foot joint-use facility.
- When the new complex opens in 2023 it will include two NHL-size ice surfaces, an indoor walking track, a modern library with proper program space and meeting rooms.
- The town is funding the $59-million investment through reserves, long-term financing, and community donations.
