Today the Town of Wasaga Beach officially reopened Beach Drive.
“On behalf of council and town staff, I am delighted to reopen this iconic road to our residents and visitors,” Mayor Brian Smith said. “It is great that we once again have road access to this treasured area of our community.”
Public works staff started removing the sand from Beach Drive in December and recently completed the work.
“So many people have told me how they have missed being able to drive, cycle, or walk along this road, while enjoying the majestic view of Nottawasaga Bay and the Niagara Escarpment,” Mayor Smith said. “Others have mentioned how much they have missed being able to park along Beach Drive and enjoy a coffee or an ice cream cone while watching the waterfront. Well those memory-making opportunities are now back.”
Beach Drive runs between Spruce and Third streets. The waterfront area has historically served as a popular gathering spot for residents and visitors.
The municipality has plans to redeveloped town-owned land immediately to the south of Beach Drive, creating a mixed-use area, including commercial, residential, and public spaces. Watch our website for updates on the project.
