The Town of Wasaga Beach is pleased to share that Darren Neil and Sons, a local excavating, haulage and specialty services company, has donated $10,000 to support the construction of the town’s new Twin Pad Arena and Library.
Darren Neil and Sons have long been community builders and their donation will help to ensure the final facility remains on track.
“We couldn’t be more pleased and more proud of this donation,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “The town’s new twin-pad arena and library is going to bring our community together in its state-of-the art rinks, events, public spaces and rows of books. Thanks to the incredible support of so many businesses, organizations and individuals in our community, including Darren Neil and Sons, it’s also bringing our community together to get it done.”
Wasaga Beach’s new facility will be an essential part of the town, not only for the arena and library but as a gathering place for the community.

Quick facts
- The Wasaga Stars Arena, built nearly 50 years ago, is at the end of its lifespan.
- The Wasaga Beach Library, which opened in 1994, is too small to meet the needs of our growing community. A review, including a community consultation process, determined 544 River Road West as the best site for a new 117,669-square-foot joint-use facility.
- When the new complex opens in 2023 it will include two NHL-size ice surfaces, an indoor walking track, a modern library with proper program space and meeting rooms.
- The town is funding the $59-million investment through reserves, long-term financing, and community donations.
About the project
The twin-pad arena and library project supports Council’s priorities to create opportunities to diversify the economy and create jobs, and to build a complete community.
It’s part of the Town’s plan to become a leader in sustainability, creativity, innovation and fun: A place with thriving businesses, safe, inclusive and complete neighbourhoods; where we celebrate our rich history, diversity of cultures, natural beauty, the Nottawasaga River, Georgian Bay and the world’s longest freshwater beach. A place where people choose to come to create memories that will last a lifetime.
