May 26 - June 1 is Proclaimed National AccessAbility Week
WHEREAS, the week of May 26 to June 1, 2024 is recognized as National AccessAbility Week and aims to celebrate achievements made both by and for persons with disabilities in the areas of accessibility and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, National AccessAbility Week celebrates the contributions of Canadians with disabilities and recognizes the work being undertaken to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, removing barriers to inclusion where persons with disabilities can participate in all aspects of society including accessing employment, resources and services, benefits all of society; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Wasaga Beach is committed to providing inclusive environments that are accessible and welcoming to staff, residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, Easter Seals is just one example of an organization participating in National AccessAbility Week and on May 29, 2024, Easter Seals invites everyone to participate in Red Shirt Day by wearing Red to support AccessAbility and Inclusion which highlights their support for people living with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Red Shirt Day is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red in order to create a visible display of solidarity for people and families living with disabilities; and
THEREFORE, I, Mayor Brian Smith, on behalf of the Council of Wasaga Beach, do hereby proclaim May 26, - June 1, 2024 as National AccessAbility Week and call upon my fellow citizens to wear red and promote messages of support for people and families living with disabilities.
