April is Proclaimed Parkinson Awareness Month & April 11th is Proclaimed World Parkinson Day
WHEREAS Parkinson’s is a disease of the brain that touches almost every aspect of daily living including movement, mood, speech, eating, drinking, sleep, and cognition; and Parkinson’s is a progressive chronic disease that results in loss of independence with no known cure; and
WHEREAS Parkinson’s disease is the second largest neurodegenerative condition affecting 100,000 + Canadians where the number of new cases diagnosed will grow each day; and Parkinson’s disease impacts the lives of thousands of families and care partners and timely access to care and treatments makes the difference between living well and experiencing hardship; and
WHEREAS Parkinson Canada inspires and empowers people living with Parkinson’s to thrive through tailored programs, innovative research and advocacy efforts; and community members must engage in helping friends, family and neighbours living with Parkinson’s
THEREFORE, I, Mayor Brian Smith, on behalf of the Council of the Town of Wasaga Beach, do hereby proclaim April as “Parkinson’s Awareness Month” and April 11th as “World Parkinson’s Day” in the Town of Wasaga Beach.
