Town Welcomes Residents to New Wasaga Stars Arena and Wasaga Beach Public Library Open House on Saturday January 27 and Sunday January 28 from 1pm – 5pm
Residents will enjoy free public skating and get a sneak peek of the new arena and library before the official opening on January 29
Wasaga Beach – New year, new arena and new library! On Saturday January 27 and Sunday January 28, the Town of Wasaga Beach is inviting residents to help celebrate, break in the ice and test out new systems to sign out a library book at the new Wasaga Stars Arena and Wasaga Beach Public Library, located at 544 River Road West. Doors will open to the public from 1pm – 5pm on both days.
Residents and visitors are invited to bring their family and friends to get a sneak peek of the new facility, experience the library and enjoy free public skating.
It is all part of the Town’s grand opening celebrations, leading up to the official opening of the new arena and library on January 29 and the Breaking the Ice Festival.
“As we prepare for the grand opening of the new Wasaga Stars Arena and new Wasaga Beach Public Library, we want to invite every family and every resident of Wasaga Beach to come together and help us celebrate,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “Come check out your new arena and library on January 27 and 28 – enjoy free public skating and help us kick the tires on our new library systems by checking out a book, or just come to explore the space. It’s an incredible space for an incredible community, and we are excited to welcome our residents for this very special sneak peek.”
“The Library Board, staff and volunteers are excited to welcome the community into our new space, to have a first visit and help us try out our library systems before the official opening,” said Lorraine Gruzuk, Wasaga Beach Public Library Board Chair. "The new Wasaga Beach Public Library is for everyone, and we have been working hard to help make this official opening – and the Grand Opening in February – a warm, welcoming and fun-filled success.”
The community is also invited to help celebrate the old Wasaga Stars Arena with free public skating on January 28 at the 425 River Rd W. location, from 6pm-7:30pm. Following this final public skating event, the old arena will officially close its doors to the public.

January 28 – Old Wasaga Stars Arena will officially close, following free public skating at 425 River Rd W. from 6pm-7:30pm
January 29 – Official opening: Wasaga Beach’s new Wasaga Stars Arena and library is officially open to the public!
February 10 – Breaking the Ice Festival begins
Quick facts
- The old Wasaga Stars Arena is 80 feet wide and 185 feet long. The new arena is 85 feet wide, and 200 feet long, which makes it an official NHL size arena.
- The size of the old Wasaga Beach Public Library is 4,500 square feet, while the new library offers 17,000 square feet packed with new opportunities.
- Canadian rock legends, Blue Rodeo and Burton Cummings, will also headline separate concerts at the new Wasaga Stars Arena as part of the Breaking the Ice Festival, a two-week lineup of events to celebrate the grand opening of the new arena and library and kick-off the Town’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
- Wasaga Beach was incorporated as a village in 1951 and as a town in 1974.
