Wasaga Beach Announces New Name for Twin Pad Arena and Library, Launches Search for Naming Sponsors for Two NHL-Size Ice Rinks
Town also welcomes $19,000 in new donations as it prepares to announce details of grand opening
Wasaga Beach – The Town’s new twin-pad arena and library has a new, familiar name. Following a decision by Council today, the new arena and library will open its doors in the New Year as the Wasaga Stars Arena and Wasaga Beach Public Library.
Mayor Brian Smith made the announcement during today’s Council meeting, while celebrating $19,000 in new donations by local businesses and organizations including Carruthers & Davidson, Wasaga Beach Adventure Park, the Kinnette Club of Wasaga Beach, the Wasaga Beach Women’s Business Association, and the Walter Borthwick family.
“Council received feedback that the community wants the name of our new arena and library to be the Wasaga Stars Arena and Wasaga Beach Public Library – Council listened and the Town and Zancor have mutually agreed to respect the community’s wishes,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “This project has brought our community together in our efforts to fundraise and build it, and it will continue to bring our community together when we celebrate the grand opening alongside our donors, top athletes and Canadian rock legends in the New Year.”
With the grand opening of the new twin-pad arena and library fast approaching, the Town has also issued a new call for sponsors to help name each of its two new NHL-size ice rinks.
“The Town is incredibly thankful to all of our donors and community champions, including Zancor and the Cortellucci family who, without a doubt, will continue to play an important role in the success of this new facility, which truly is a community hub,” added Mayor Smith. “We are grateful for the extraordinary generosity of the new donors we have announced today. We are also very excited to launch this new call for sponsors to help us name our two state-of-the-art ice rinks.”
“We’re excited to issue this call for naming sponsors for the Town’s new ice rinks. It’s a tremendous opportunity and we’re asking everyone to help spread the word,” said Chris Roos, Director of Recreation and Facilities. “These new NHL-size ice rinks are at the heart of our new facility and our community. They will be at the centre of our spectacular grand opening in the New Year, as well as year-round activities and entertainment on-ice and off.”
