Help Make Our Slice of Paradise More Accessible!
"Wasaga Beach should be a place where everyone, regardless of age or ability, can enjoy the sun, waves, and sand. Accessibility is about ensuring that no one is left behind — whether it's through improved pathways, ramps, or inclusive facilities, our goal is to ensure more residents and visitors feel welcomed and can experience the natural beauty of our shoreline — Ontario's summer playground and the longest freshwater beach in the world — to the fullest." - Mayor Brian Smith
Wasaga Beach - The Town of Wasaga Beach is rallying residents, visitors and fans of the #WorldsLongestFreshwaterBeach to help the Town win FREE accessibility devices, including beach mats.
“While the Town and Council continues to invest more in accessibility devices and beach mats each year, sheer size — the fact that Wasaga Beach is the longest freshwater beach in the world — makes it a challenge for our small town. We’re looking for creative ways to leverage our existing investments and commitments to accessibility to make our slice of paradise more accessible,” said Fred Heyduk, Chair of the Town's Accessibility Advisory Committee.
Visitors, residents and community groups are encouraged to get involved.
Here's how you can help make even more of Wasaga Beach's 14-km sandy beach accessible through the "Accessing Paradise" contest, presented by Corona and Mobi-mat:
Quick Facts
- Since 2015, the Town, in collaboration with Ontario Parks, has purchased and installed 14 Mobi-mats, two Mobi-decks and four Mobi-chairs.
- In 2024, the Town's Accessibility Committee received Council approval to invest $7500 to purchase two Mobi-Wings and two Mobi-Decks, which can connect to existing Mobi-Mats . This will give visitors and residents the ability to maneuver mobility devices off Mobi-Mats and onto Mobi-Decks, to allow for extended periods of stay.
- In 2025, the Town's Accessibility Committee received Council approval to invest $10,000 in an additional 25-foot Mobi-Mat and six additional Mobi-Decks.
- In 2025, funds have also been set aside to improve signage and communications at Ontario Parks, to better inform and educate people on how to access the Town's Mobi-mats during their visits to the Town of Wasaga Beach and Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.
